Reiki History | Historical Perspective | FAQ
Having practiced Reiki since 1987, I can say it has been a powerful tool for healing and balancing. Having received the 3rd chakra Master attunements, I can honestly say that Reiki has made an enormous shift in me, toward higher awareness. Reiki has a diverse background – above is enough information to describe a bit of the history and to explain what it is. To truly feel Reiki, go to a well-established and respected practitioner! Reiki is life-force energy – we all have access to this healing energy.

Eden Energy Medicine Energy Medicine Institute | Inner Source
Starting with her work in the Touch For Health program, Donna Eden has integrated nine energy systems – she's developed exercises and methodologies that are comprehensive and include a wide range of modalities to increase health, energy, and balance. I bought her book when it came out in the late 90's and I keep on learning from her! As a student in the 2-year Eden Energy Medicine Certification Program, with just a couple of classes left before graduation I feel honored to have access to more healing techniques and talented healers, than I ever dreamed were available – and to some of the most and wonderful, beautiful Spirits on Earth. What a blessing. Her new book, Energy Medicine for Women and a revised and updated "10th Anniversary Edition" Energy Medicine, now available since August '08. She is a beautiful force of Love and Joy, and a wonderful teacher and healer! Recently co-authoring The Promise of Energy Psychology with Gary Craig, Donna and her husband psychologist David Feinstein's books earned three national awards in 2007, including two Book of the Year Awards in their respective categories from prestigious sources (including U.S. Book News). Their websites are full of great info, research articles, and upcoming workshops!

Meditation The Meditation Society
Definitely check this one out!

Yoga Journal Site
A fave – as with their magazine, this website is a plethora of great information and resources!!!

Hemi-Sync (The Monroe Institute) Site
The Monroe Institute has developed a new field of scientific research, which creates balance between the hemispheres of the brain and promotes “focused whole-brain states of consciousness”, which “improves human performance”. It is mind-expanding – both a powerful relaxation and healing tool, and also great for bringing balance, grounding, and optimal focus re: learning disabilities. I’ve used their CD’s in my own meditation groups and with my energy work clients and feel it greatly enhances and deepens the experience. Also, if the work of Brian Weiss or Carlos Casteneda interests you, read Robert Monroe’s three books. They're a fascinating re-telling of his experiences starting with his sound experiments that triggered traveling out of body beyond the physical realms - if want to know what lies beyond, start reading right away! Another way to experience Monroe's research is to attend one of their workshops at The Monroe Institute in VA - My husband and I attended (summer '07) and I am still processing my wonderful time and mind expanding experiences there!

Flower Essences – FES FAQ - About the Barnards
I am excited about these remedies. There are many wonderful flower essences, but since I started using the Bach essences over 21 years ago, I’ve found them to be so profound and broad in their scope of core issues – and I’ve seen many positive effects in both myself, my family, and my clients. I’m so happy that Julian Bernard is bringing back the "essence" of the original Bach Center work.

Past Life Therapy (Brian Weiss, M.D.) Site
I love it when skeptical scientists, those from the medical community have metaphysical, mystical experiences, and document it! As with Dr.'s Kubler-Ross, Candace Pert, Judith Orloff, Norm Shealy, Joyce Whiteley Hawkes and many others, Dr. Weiss’ writings offer validation to the skeptical re: my own experiences (as do a plethora of authors I’ve read over the years from Edgar Cayce and Jane Roberts to Sanaya Roman/Duane Packer, Pat Rodegast, Caroline Myss, Gary Zukav, Linda Kohanov, Mary Summer Rain, Meredith Lady Young and many more). I discovered the work of Dr. Weiss having just moved to Southern California and being hired as night manager of the health food store/café called Follow Your Heart. On every break I would read Messages From the Masters, his groundbreaking book – he “was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key” to her therapy issues, and started to share messages about “the space between lives”. Read his books for validation, and to begin or continue to explore your own journey of remembering, healing, and discovery.

I am deeply grateful to have trained with Brian and Carole Weiss at the Omega Institute, August 2008 for Past Life Regression Therapy – of course this is about regression and progression! Another wonderful Jungian therapeutic tool to allow us to gain insight, bring healing, and to help us remember how love teaches us, ties us together, and empowers us to see the fullness of our being.

Homeopathy (Dr. Luc DeSchepper) General Articles
Dr. Luc is one of those rare individuals – he is a medical doctor and acupuncturist as well as a homeopath, teacher, and author. He is also a specialist on immune system issues and I was lucky enough to have found him (after 8 years with chronic fatigue/systemic Candida, following advice from every source I could find with minimal or no change). His holistic approach addressed the original stressors and necessary dietary changes in addition to use of homeopathy and acupuncture. His careful and compassionate approach led me to develop great respect for him – and to heal. Later (when I was the Nutrition Assistant Team Leader at Whole Foods Market in Chicago), I encouraged the store team leader to help bring him in as a guest speaker. He is a gift to the world. Thank-you Dr. Luc!!!

Alexander Alliance Site
Bruce Fertman was my Alexander teacher in college, (as the movement teacher for our BFA program, he also taught Aikido, Tai Chi, and more). An impeccable teacher, he was an amazingly grounding force in those years for me – I learned a great deal about how to feel awareness in the body, and how to move with ease and be congruent in the body. I will always be grateful to have worked with him. He left Rutgers in my last year there and started the Alexander Alliance in Philadelphia, which is thriving today.

Holistic Wellness Site
Find practitioners, schools, check out their Learning Center for descriptions of many holistic and complementary/alternative modalities.

Daily OM Site
You can sign up for the newsletter or just peruse the archives! An excellent source for inspiration and insight on a variety of topics, it’s non-denominational, with a Spiritual, holistic focus. I've often found it sends me just the information I needed! Daily Om is also a great resource for learning about holistic products, artists and modalities.

David Newman Music Site
David Newman came to Savannah to do Kirtan – my husband and I had fun singing and meeting David and Mira! David is a joy – his music is from the heart, and is s synthesis of traditional Kirtan, with beautiful melodies and also contemporary lyrics. Check out his site – he may be coming to a location near you, listen to samples, etc. David even graciously let us use his music for a beautiful short film my husband shot of our 2006 “Savannah Yoga for Peace” Event. Small world, when I was looking into getting certified in Alexander Technique with Bruce Fertman, found out that Bruce knew David from his Yoga work in Philadelphia (sadly, at that time, I was not able to sign on and I eventually decided to go with the Donna Eden Certification, however it was great to talk with Bruce and hear how wonderfully his work has developed).

Food Revolution Site
Find links to Earthsave, Vegsource and much more, and learn about how your food choices affect your health and “help to create a thriving, just and sustainable planet.” See my article on Diet for A New America in the Articles section (written back in 1990 and later printed in the Whole Foods newsletter) to see how deeply this information affected me!

SATYA and Global Mala Yoga for Peace Event SATYA | Global Mala
The first Yoga association in Savannah, the Savannah Area Teachers of Yoga Association (SATYA) has the mission of creating greater awareness and understanding of the yoga practice and the health benefits it brings... I am grateful to be participating for the 3rd year of 2008 Savannah Yoga for Peace. This year we've partnered with the Global Mala Project: Uniting Yoga, Seva and Collective Consciousness. SATYA will provide donations offered to Savannah’s own Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter, as well as the Off the Mat, Into the World’s 2008 Seva Challenge.

Off the Mat, Into the World 2008 Seva Challenge
Off the Mat, Into the World® is a 501(c)(3) project of The Engage Network... this USA charity is focusing on the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF) in 2008. When I won a trip to San Francisco for the '08 January Yoga Journal Conference and got to a take yoga and other classes with Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Ana Forrest, Shanti Shanti Kaur Khalsa, Joel Kramer, Thomas Fortel, and others, and then saw Seane Corn speak about this Seva Challenge, (before Michael Franti's benefit concert) I was bitten and deeply moved to act. I feel impelled to contribute my services, and in the end I hope, make our world a more peaceful place for all. If you can contribute, you help not only some of the poorest children and most underprivileged in the world, but you’ll also support me in bringing what I learned in Cambodia back to my own community (a part of these funds also goes to local at-risk youth yoga programs). Please check out Off the Mat, Into the World’s 2008 Seva Challenge to be an activist for social change. To make a tax deductible donation for the Cambodian Children's Fund Campaign, click on the drop down menu where “Not Applicable” is written in the box, and select my name, Ellen Farrell.

The Nature Conservancy Site
“The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.” There are so many good groups who are doing advocacy, protection and support of our Earth, and our communities at home and at large. How can we as individuals be in balance if we don’t remember that we are part of the Earth and it is part of us – all things are connected (as Chief Seattle said).
